The Gender Budget totals ₹94,663 crore, while the Child Budget is estimated at ₹63,135 crore. These allocations demonstrate the government’s focus on inclusive development and social welfare.

Bengaluru Infrastructure and Urban Development

Urban infrastructure development has received significant emphasis in the Karnataka Budget 2026-27. The government has set aside around ₹7,000 crore specifically for infrastructure projects in Bengaluru. As India’s top technology hub, Bengaluru faces increasing challenges with its roads, transport systems, and urban facilities. To tackle these issues, the government plans to invest heavily in road repairs, metro expansion, and tunnel projects. About ₹3,000 crore has been dedicated to white-topping nearly 450 kilometers of urban roads. This process is expected to enhance road durability and lower maintenance costs. Furthermore, ₹2,250 crore has been allocated for metro rail expansion and tunnel projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city. These projects aim to improve mobility and cut travel time for millions of daily commuters.

Rural Development and Water Supply Projects

While urban development is a priority, the government has also targeted rural infrastructure. The budget suggests several initiatives to enhance rural connectivity and provide clean drinking water. One major initiative is the Pragathi Patha Scheme, which will be supported by funding from the Asian Development Bank. This scheme will aim to develop around 7,110 kilometers of rural roads at an estimated cost of ₹5,190 crore. The government has allocated ₹10,433 crore for projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. This initiative seeks to ensure that every rural household has access to safe drinking water through functional tap connections. Improving rural infrastructure not only boosts connectivity but also supports agriculture, small businesses, and rural economic growth.

Artificial Intelligence and Technology Initiatives

Technology development is another key focus of the Karnataka Budget 2026-27. The government plans to establish Artificial Intelligence Centres of Excellence in Bengaluru. These centers will be created in partnership with major technology institutions and industry organizations. The project has a budget of ₹16 crore. Additionally, the government announced a Quantum Technology Roadmap with a budget of ₹10 crore. This initiative aims to position Karnataka as a leader in new technologies. By investing in AI and advanced computing, the state government hopes to strengthen its status as India’s top technology hub.

 Water Resource and Irrigation Projects

The budget includes several key irrigation and water management projects that will support farmers and enhance agricultural productivity. One significant proposal is the Mekedatu Project, which will commence once it receives forest clearance from the central environmental authorities. Another irrigation initiative is the Vuduthore Halla Scheme in Hanur taluk, Chamarajanagara district. Approximately ₹490 crore has been allocated for this project, which aims to irrigate about 12,000 acres of agricultural land. These projects are expected to improve water availability for farming and strengthen rural economies.

Education Sector Reforms

Education has received considerable attention in the Karnataka Budget 2026-27. The government intends to upgrade around 800 schools under the Karnataka Public School model. An allocation of ₹3,900 crore has been earmarked for this project, aiming to enhance the quality of education in government schools by upgrading infrastructure, facilities, and learning resources. The government also plans to fill about 15,000 teaching positions in schools and colleges. This move is expected to improve the availability of teachers and enhance learning outcomes. Additionally, ₹640 crore has been allocated for building new classrooms, increasing sanitation facilities, and repairing existing school buildings.

Healthcare and Public Health Programs

The budget prioritizes healthcare infrastructure as well. The government has set aside ₹900 crore to upgrade healthcare facilities across the state. The health department plans to fill around 2,500 vacancies to improve services in hospitals and health centers. A special initiative has been launched for children diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes. This program will provide free insulin to children up to 18 years old. These initiatives aim to improve healthcare access and lessen the financial burden on families.

Women and Child Welfare Initiatives

The Karnataka Budget 2026-27 includes various initiatives focused on supporting women and children. The government has increased financial incentives to ₹45,000 for beneficiaries of programs like Chetana and Dhanashree schemes. These incentives aim to support income-generating activities for former Devadasis and gender minorities. The government has also budgeted ₹200 crore for constructing Anganwadi buildings in the Kalyana Karnataka region. Additionally, 20 new district-level crèches will be established to assist working mothers. These initiatives are expected to enhance social welfare and create better opportunities for women and children.

Agriculture Modernization and Millet Promotion

Agriculture is still a crucial part of Karnataka’s economy, and the budget outlines several initiatives aimed at modernizing farming practices. One key scheme is the Chief Minister Krishi Vistara Yojana, which has been allocated ₹100 crore over three years. This scheme promotes scientific farming techniques and encourages the reuse of agricultural waste. The government plans to establish a Millet Hub to support millets and organic products. The hub will focus on improving marketing, branding, and processing of millet products. These initiatives reflect a global emphasis on sustainable agriculture and healthy food systems.

Food Security and Welfare Schemes

To secure food for vulnerable households, the government has set aside ₹6,200 crore for the distribution of Indira Food Kits. These kits will include essential items like pulses, sugar, salt, and cooking oil. This initiative aims to assist economically weaker families in managing rising food costs. Food security programs like this play a vital role in improving nutrition and reducing poverty.

Social Justice and Minority Welfare Programs

The budget allocates significant financial support for social justice initiatives. About ₹44,632 crore has been allocated under the SC Sub-Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. There are plans to upgrade Maulana Azad Model Schools and Urdu schools into Karnataka Public Schools, with budgets of ₹600 crore and ₹400 crore respectively. Additionally, ₹1,500 crore has been set aside to support welfare corporations for SC, ST, BC, and minority communities. The budget also suggests creating a Scheduled Tribes Commission to strengthen policy support for tribal communities.

Renewable Energy and Sustainability Plans

Renewable energy development receives important attention in the budget. The government plans to install solar micro-grids in all Gram Panchayats through the Anantha scheme. This program aims to enhance renewable energy infrastructure and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources. The budget allocates ₹10,578 crore for the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides free electricity to eligible households. Furthermore, 1,250 electric vehicle charging stations will be set up under the PM-E-Drive scheme, costing ₹777 crore. These initiatives support Karnataka’s shift toward sustainable energy.

Industrial Development and Startup Ecosystem

Industrial growth and innovation are also key focuses in the Karnataka Budget 2026-27. The government has announced plans to create an incubation center for startups with an investment of ₹20 crore. This initiative will be developed alongside the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, the University of New South Wales, and the Indian Institute of Science. Additional industrial projects include establishing an aerospace common facility center in the KIADB Aerospace Park, with a budget of ₹30 crore. The government has also set aside ₹600 crore for the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project.

IT and Biotechnology Growth Plans

Karnataka continues to strengthen its position as India’s technology capital. The government has announced the LEAP program, which will create industry-academia collaboration centers in cities such as Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Hoskote, and Mysuru.

A new IT park will also be developed in Mangaluru to attract global capability centers.
